Pursuit of Happyness means to seek happiness and chase dreams in order to live a joyful life. Because the protagonist states that 'Y' stands for 'you,' the title employs the letter 'Y' instead of the letter 'I' in the word happyness, and it also appears as graffiti in this movie. This movie is based on a true story which revolves around Chris played by Will Smith, the protagonist of the story who is unemployed and makes his livelihood for his 5-year-old son and his wife by selling bone detecting machines which are pretty costly for hospitals to invest in due to which very less of them are sold. Linda, his wife, works two shifts a day to help support the family financially. Linda finally gets fed up with Chris's inability to work and provide for their family, and she leaves him. Chris is left with very little money, a large tax bill to pay, and a 5-year-old child to take care of.
Chris told his narrative in sections, such as stupidity and happiness. He finds a stockbroker internship program and enrolls in it, where he must be numerate and perform some fieldwork by phoning people as well as study for an exam to become a licensed stockbroker.
He becomes homeless after failing to pay his rent for a long period, and on the first day finds shelter in the station washroom and then for a few days in a homeless shelter where already people are waiting in lengthy lines. He keeps on running the whole time as he has to catch his son and work, and catch trains, he makes sure he doesn't waste a single minute of his day. Throughout the film, he loses a lot of things, yet he never gives up. He even spent a day in jail for failing to pay his parking tickets, and the next day he had an interview. After the partners examined the licensed stockbroker exams, Chris is informed that today is the last day of his internship program, but tomorrow is his first day on the job as a stockbroker. He is so taken aback by the news that he thanks everyone and rushes over to his child, hugging him warmly, and the narrative concludes with the father and son joyfully walking and conversing.
The world is your oyster, It's up to you to find the pearls.
This story is about a single father's love to make a living for his child and about achieving success for himself. Although Linda left Chris and didn't show trust in him, his son is the one who inspires him and encourages him and more importantly shows complete faith in him that everything will be fine soon. Chris is usually cheerful, no matter what the scenario; he is motivated to work hard and not give up. Everyone needs that one driving force in their lives to keep them going to the end, and Chris's driving force was his son. It's important to dream large, as Chris does since it reminds you why you started doing anything in the first place. In the end dreaming big, working hard for it, staying consistent in what you are doing, and waiting for the colorful results is all one needs to do in life along with staying happy all the time.
Until next time, stay happy and keep going.
